Myths, Legends, and Lore of Crowley County

The Friends of the Library hosted a story-telling night at the library October 20, 2017 at 7PM.  The title—Myths, Legends and Lore of Crowley County” elicited some very interesting tales.

Darla Wyeno told of a castle in the river bottom south of Olney Springs in the late 1800’s to the 1920’s or so.  Paula Bennedsen remembered stories from her grandmother about dances they had there.  After all evidence of the castle had long been destroyed, a large (about 2’x3′) rock with a very ornate crest was found.

Sandi Plawski embellished a sighting she experienced at her home to include a personal history of a past owner.  She interviewed Karl Grasmick’s descendants to learn the details she used.

Rob Keenan took us back to the time when Crowley County was deep under the sea, and brought us forward to the early Native occupants.

Richard Medina told us about the historical characters behind the story of la llorona.

Jacque Fosdick related her sighting of the “Crowley Werewolf”.

Bernice McClure sent a couple of scary stories related to her by those left home alone with their imaginations.

There were 19 people in attendance, and everyone agreed that it was well worth the time and effort to be there.  So, please consider being there yourself, the next time the Friends host an event!
